July, 2021 Dear Village Residents, In 2016 the Village of Dexter underwent a multimillion-dollar sewer system upgrade. At that time Village residents were notified to have any and all discharge water that was being sent to the public sewer system rectified. Per Village Code Article VI Use of Public Sewers, 232-25. Drainage discharges. It states “No person shall discharge or cause to be discharged any storm water, surface water, groundwater, roof runoff, subsurface drainage, cooling water, or industrial process waters to the public sewer”. Please find a copy of the codes attached. At this time the Village is requesting inspections of the drainage discharges be done on all Village properties. The Village will begin enforcing removal of all “illegal” connections to the sanitary sewer system. The Dexter Code will provide penalties for the failure to comply with a notice to disconnect an illegal connection. The Village expects there will be a high rate of voluntary compliance with this inspection program as the goal is to reduce wastewater treatment costs and improve the quality of our wastewater treatment plant discharge. Please contact the Village Office between the hours of 8am-3pm Monday through Thursday to set up an appointment with James Millington, Village of Dexter Code Enforcement or the DPW. Thank you for your time in the matter. Respectfully, James R. Eves, Mayor Village of Dexter |
