​Spring Clean Up Saturday May 21, 2022
Sewer Rate Increase
Beginning the April 1st through June 30th quarterly billing 2022, (reflected on the July bill), there will be a sewer rate increase of $10.00 per quarter to sustain the sewer debt payment and regular operating costs.

Minimum Water& Sewer Billing Charge
Beginning the April 1st through June 30th quarterly billing 2022, (reflected on the July bill), there will be a minimum quarterly bill for any water and or sewer account that is shut off. During the period which an account is inactive there will be no charge for water, sewer or refuse usage. However, the resident will still be responsible to pay their portion of the quarterly DANC and Water Debt $63.00 and or Sewer Debt $46.oo as do all active accounts in their regular quarterly water bill.  
Department of Public Works-Always Accepting Applications
The Village of Dexter Department of Public Works is always accepting applications. The position would include assisting in snow removal, heavy equipment operation, lawn mowing, maintenance of village grounds, assistance with sidewalk replacement patching and grading streets. Acquiring, maintaining, and securing a license for water and sewer. Valid drivers license is required and a CDL is needed but will train.  This position is 40 hours a week with shared overtime and weekend rotation. Medical, dental, vision, and other insurance is offered. State Pension is also offered, as well as 401B (deferred compensation).  Starting pay is $15.00/hr., longevity pay, license increases and raises. If you are interested in a career please apply at Village of Dexter, PO Box 62, 509 Liberty St Dexter, NY 13634. Applications are available on our website. Applications can be mailed or dropped off at the above address Monday through Sunday in the drop box on the side of the building. Office is open Monday - Thursday 8:00a.m. - 3:00p.m. 

VILLAGE OF DEXTER PRIOR NOTICE LAW
No civil actions shall be maintained against the Village of Dexter for damages or injuries to persons or property sustained by reason of any highway, bridge, sidewalk, or culvert being defective, out of repair, unsafe, dangerous or obstructed unless: written notice of such a condition was received by the clerk of the village, and there was a failure-neglect within a reasonable time after the giving of such notice to repair or correct the defect.
 
PARKING
Whether there is snow or not the parking of vehicles is hereby prohibited on all highways or between the sidewalk & the street within the village of dexter between 2:00 am and 6:00 am November 1st through April 1st. Violators will be ticketed, towed or both.
 
Public parking at a local business must not interfere with emergency vehicles. Fire, rescue and ambulance vehicles must have a clear path to and from the Municipal Building at all times. There is no parking allowed on East Kirby St. across from the Dexter Laundromat in signed areas. Violators will have the appropriate action taken.

​Storage of abandoned, unused, or unlicensed motor vehicles upon private land within the village, unless wholly contained in a garage or other structure is prohibited. A 30-day permit can be obtained in the Village Office. Violators can be issued a fine of up to $250.


OBSTRUCTIONS
Basketball hoops or any other obstructions within the Village Right of Way need to be removed. The Village will not be responsible for any incidents and or damages that may occur from such obstructions.

The Village of Dexter Department of Public Works/Highway Department has no liability in replacing or repairing mailboxes or other fixtures that are placed in the village’s right-of-way. During the course of roadway maintenance and snowplowing, such items may be unintentionally damaged. We regret that this may happen from time to time, but our road safety and maintenance is a priority and of the upmost importance. Property owners have no right to interfere with a speedy and efficient removal of snow by placing the mailbox in such a position to cause interference. There is no statutory law or legal authority which grants a property owner or resident along a public highway or street the right to place a mailbox in the highway right-of-way. Please see Village Law §6-602; Highway Law §319, which can be found online.
 
LOCAL LAW #1 OF 1979 DOG CONTROL
According to Village of Dexter Local Law #1 of 1979, dogs are not permitted to run at large, deposit waste on public or private property, bark, howl, or whine continually, within the Village of Dexter. Violation of this law is punishable by a $250 fine. Any dog running loose without a collar or tag will be considered unlicensed and will be picked up by the county dog warden. Animal Charities of NNY offers spay/neuter assistance for dogs and cats. For information, call 639-2486 or go online to www.animalcharities.org. Complaints have been received in the village office about the number of cats running loose in the village. Please help us control the cat population.

VILLAGE OF DEXTER FAIR HOUSING LAW
The Mayor and Board of Trustees would like to remind residents that the Village of Dexter Fair Housing Law makes it illegal to discriminate in the sale or rental, or the provision of brokerage services due to race, creed, color, religion, sex, handicap, family status. If anyone feels that they have been discriminated against for any reason, please contact the Village Office @ 639-6260.
